The player himself is not liable, instead he makes the site liable for accepting funds associated with illegal Online Gambling. According to this, an online poker player from the US is not violating UIGEA or any federal law, but you may be violating state or tribal law depending on in which state you are located.
It is therefore your responsibility to determine wheather you are violating any laws or not in the state where you are located.
